Vinton G. Cerf Joins Big Broadband Everywhere Group Board

FirstMile.US today announced the appointment of Vinton G. Cerf to the board of directors. He joins Jim Baller, Steve Corbató, Susan Estrada, Dewayne Hendricks and Lynn St.Amour to supervise the activities and affairs of the non-profit.

Vinton G. Cerf is vice president and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google. He is responsible for identifying new enabling technologies and applications on the Internet and other platforms for Google. Widely known as one of the "Fathers of the Internet," Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet. In December 1997, President Clinton presented the U.S. National Medal of Technology to Cerf and his partner, Robert E. Kahn, for founding and developing the Internet.

"Vint brings his long-lived passion for the Internet to our goal of making big broadband everywhere a reality," said Susan Estrada, FirstMile.US president. "His enthusiasm and corporate experience add a new and welcome dimension to our board. We are darn happy to have him join us on this journey."

"I believe that the goals of FirstMile.US are exactly what our nation needs right now," noted Vint Cerf. "FirstMile.US has the staff and the smarts to help bring the US back to a position of leadership by creating a grassroots coalition that focuses on creating demand for broadband -- especially symmetric, low-latency and high-performance big broadband. I look forward to helping grow FirstMile.US into a position of leadership."
